Blog-In (The Help)
My favorite character in The Help so far is Miss Celia. She's misunderstood. Her new maid is Minny, and even though Minny is sometimes mean to her, I think she really understands Celia. Miss Celia is very pretty and also very lonely, which makes her a complex character. Why is she so lonely? Only time will tell. What's one word I'd use to describe Miss Celia? I think I'd say, 'afraid' or 'alone', because behind her makeup and fancy clothes, she's really afraid of her new life.

Pink Flower
I wanted to include this final photo to play around with some of the 'photographing gardens' rules. One rule said to include a contrasting shape/color to highlight the beauty of the flower. In this photo, I like how the damp cement, with the green moss growing in the cracks, contrasts the sharp pink of the flowering bush. I might have cropped the bottom portion of the photo a bit more, on second edit.
Accordion
I really struggled with this photo. I couldn't seem to get it as clear as I would have liked. I think it would have been neat to show the accordion with the player's hands on it, to give it a bit more context/story.
Cards
This photo was also taken with an iPhone 5 and edited on iPhoto. I wasn't sure this would be a very interesting photo, but I again wanted to focus on small details that revealed the subject's life. I liked editing to blur the plant in the background and bring forward the colors of the card boxes.
Lambs
This is one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. This isn't a close-up, but it reveals something about the town where the subject of the 'Reveal' series lives. I loved playing with the colors of the grass, the mountains in the distance, and the sheep. This was also taken with an iPhone 5 camera and edited on iPhoto.
Pencils
This is the second in the 'Reveal' series, which attempts to show something of a person's life through single, close-up images. I liked playing with the brightness of the pencils in this image. The color took up most of the picture, and it seemed important to draw attention to it. I think I made a mistake by cutting off the erasers -- that would have added another fine detail.
Closet.
This is the first in a series of 'reveal' photos. The idea is to reveal something about a person's life/personality without showing his/her face. I also wanted to play around with colors and details. I took this with my iPhone 5 camera and did minimal editing on iPhoto. I like how the colors play against each other here. I tried to follow photographer Catherine Karnow's advice about standing directly in front of a number of objects to give a straightforward view of pattern.
